| Nació
en Hamburgo (Alemania) en 1922. Ya en Argentina, se inicia con fervor
en el mundo del arte pictórico. La primera etapa de Roma la condujo
por un estilo de fuerte impronta cubista, reflejo de su gran admiración
por Braque y por Pettoruti. Ya en sus primeras muestras individuales
(Van Riel, 1970 | Galería Rubinstein, 1971 | Nice, 1972) recibe
elogios por parte de la prensa escrita (Clarín, La Prensa, Argentinisches
Tageblatt). Para esta época, se advierte un vuelco en su pintura
que la conduce por un cause más expresivo, rico en valores plásticos
de orden táctil y en texturadas |
superficies
cromáticas, que otorgan a su obra un clima dramático,
opresivo, propio de una pintura decididamente expresionista. La base
de esta etapa son las paredes, las casas y los cielos que dialogan
con lo que levantó la mano del hombre.
Los cuadros de Roma son lo que nuestro ojo percibe, pero al mismo
tiempo son mucho más. Aparentemente realista, sus imágenes
se desenvuelven en más de un plano, desde lo inmediato hasta
lo trascendente, en una dimensión que puede calificarse como
simbólica. |

Ediciones Arte al Día, publicó en
1997 un importante libro en versión trilingüe (Español
| Inglés | Alemán) con un estudio crítico-biográfico
realizado por el afamado crítico Rafael Squirru. El libro
contiene la reproducción de una parte de su obra plástica,
sobre más de 1000 obras realizadas por la artista.
Recientemente se la ha incluído en una publicación editada
en Alemania "Kunst in der Krise" (Arte en Crisis), que hace
referencia a los artístas marginados por el régimen imperante
en ese país entre 1933 y 1945. |

Roma
Geber was born in Hamburg (Germany)
in 1922. Once in Argentina, she enters with passion into the world of
painting. Roma's first phase led her through a style deeply marked by
cubism, a reflection of her great admiration for Braque and Pettoruti.
Already in her early individual exhibits (Van Riel, 1970/Galeria Rubinstein,
1971/ Nice, 1972) her work was praised by the press (Clain, La Prensa,
Argentinischer Tageblatt). By this time, we can see a turn in her work,
which taken her through a path more expressive, rich in tactile plastic
values and texture. Chromatic surfaces, which give to her work a dramatic,
oppressive atmosphere, clear characteristic of an expressionist work.
The basis of this phase are walls, houses and skies in dialogue with
what has been raised by the human hands.
Roma's paintings are what meets the eye, but, at the same time, they
are much more.
Apparently realistic, the images develop into more than one layer -from
the inmediate to the trascendental, in a dimension which may be cassified
as symbolic.
Ediciones Arte al Dia published in 1997 an important book, in a trilingual
version (Spanish/English/German) with a critical and biographical study
written by the famous art critic Rafael Squirru. The book reproduces
part o Roma's work, out of over 1000 paintings by the artist.
She has been recently included in a publication edited in Germany "Kunst
unter Krise" (Art in crisis), which makes a reference to the artists
marginalized by the regime that ruled in that country beween 1933 an
1945. |
